An integral part of the Medical University of South Carolina, the MUSC Pediatrics Residency Program is devoted to the training of the next generation of young physicians who will become leaders in their chosen areas of interest. Our residents develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become not only excellent clinicians today but also versatile pediatricians of tomorrow who are qualified to provide the finest quality medical care to pediatric patients.
Constructed in 1987, MUSC Children's Hospital is South Carolina's largest and most comprehensive pediatric healthcare center. As the region's top referral center, MUSC Children's Hospital allows our residents to be comfortable taking care of pediatric patients with a vast array of diagnoses that range from the straightforward to the rare and complex. MUSC Children's Hospital houses the only Level III neonatal intensive care unit in the region where the tiniest newborns receive state-of-the-art care. Our pediatric intensive care unit, the only one in the region, is staffed exclusively by trained pediatric intensivists, repiratory therapists, and nurses. With our location in downtown Charleston, SC, our residents attain excellence by providing care to children with a spectrum of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
House officers are selected on the basis of academic record, letters of recommendation, and personal interviews. Once a part of our program, residents quickly develop an inner sense of pride in the program, and their visions for continued evolution of their training experience are nurtured.
