Neurodevelopmental Biology in Preschool Children
We invite you to participate in a research study assessing how stress affects young children. Eligible
participants will receive free comprehensive educational, developmental, health and psychiatric
evaluations, which can be shared with your childŐs providers in the community to improve overall physical
and mental health and education. You may be eligible if you have a child between the ages of 3-10; AND your
biological or adoptive child has experienced an abusive or neglectful situation; OR you would like to
participate as a healthy control. Special interest in international adoptions. Compensation available.

Video Game Vision Screening
Do your children enjoy playing video games? Would you like them to have a FREE comprehensive eye exam?
Storm Eye Institute is conducting a clinical trial to validate a new vision screening tool for children
using "video game" technology. Children should be 8-15 years old with no developmental delays, psychiatric
disorders or ADD. Parent must attend in order to provide informed consent. Children will receive a full
comprehensive dilated eye exam by a pediatric ophthalmologist at no charge. Call Stephen at (843) 792-3948

Affects of Stress on Children
MUSC Department of Pediatrics is conducting a research study assessing how stress affects young children.
Eligible participants will receive, at no charge, comprehensive educational, developmental, health and
psychiatric evaluations. Participants should be children between 3-6 years of age who have experienced
an abusive or neglectful situation and their adoptive or biological parents. We are also recruiting healthy controls.

High Blood Pressure Study
Has your child been told he has high blood pressure? A study is being conducted to examine an
investigational medication, given by mouth, which may help to decrease your child's blood pressure. Compensation

Treatment of Adolescents with Alcohol Use Problems
A behavioral therapy/medication treatment study is being conducted for adolescents 15 to 25 years old with alcohol use
problems. For more information, call (843) 876-5070.
Adolescents Without Alcohol Use Problems
Adolescents between the ages of 12-20 who are not being treated for an alcohol use disorder and are
without alcohol use problems are needed to participate in a research study as healthy controls to measure
potential markers for alcohol dependence. Participation includes one visit at the Institute of Psychiatry.

Juvenile Osteoporosis Study
A clinical trial sponsored by the national Food and Drug Administration, and co-sponsored by Merck Pharmaceuticals,
is currently being offered by the Children's Hospital. This study is designed to determine the safety and efficacy
of Fosamax in children with low bone density and osteoporosis.
