Volunteer
PLEASE NOTE THAT All VOLUNTEER POSITIONS ARE FULL AT THIS TIME. PLEASE APPLY IN DECEMBER FOR PLACEMENTS IN THE SPRING.

At MUSC Children's Hospital we treasure our volunteers. From providing companionship and play activities for our children to assisting clinic and hospital staff with administrative tasks, our volunteers help fulfill our mission of providing the best quality healthcare for the children and families we serve.

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available to adults and students over the age of 16 at our hospital. Please note that due to the volume of applications we receive, and the specific requirements of the programs we offer, we are unable to place every applicant. Please review the requirements below before submitting your application.

Requirements
We ask our volunteers to commit to a minimum of one 2-3 hour shift per week on the same day at the same time and to fulfill a minimum of 50 per year. All volunteers must be at lest 16 years of age. Volunteers interested in a neonatal Intensive Care Unit or Emergency Department placement must be 21 years of age. Volunteers are required to have a health screening, background check and formal orientation to MUSC's policies and procedures prior to volunteering.

Additional Information
Summer placements are limited and subject to the 50 hour annual requirement. Students interested in volunteering during summer must be certain of their ability to follow through on their commitment and submit their application by April 1.

Please note that our program does not provide the opportunity to shadow physicians, nurses, or other health care providers, nor do we allow volunteers to perform any sort of medical procedures.

We provide all of our volunteers training and ongoing support. New volunteers are required to attend a Children's Hospital orientation, which highlights the special needs of pediatric patients and their families. In addition to your overall orientation you will receive an orientation and training in your particular area of service.
