IMPACT: Program for Preschoolers
IMPACT offers both partial hospitalization and inpatient treatment
to preschool-age children (ages 3 to 6) with extremely disruptive behavior at
home or in day care. Using age-appropriate activities, therapists
work closely with patients to modify emotional and behavioral
responses. Most treatment occurs in a school-like setting, but
community outings also are used to work with the children's
behavior in unfamiliar environments. Extensive work with family
members and continued at-home follow-up and monitoring are important
offering of this program.
Treatment and Activities
- Small Group Treatment - Emphasis is on behavioral self-control and social skills acquisition.
- Multi-Family Group - Caregivers learn behavior management techniques, coping skills, and discuss stressors in the home.
- Family Therapy - Provided as necessary to address individual family needs.
- Medication Assessment - An Attending Child Psychiatrist will provide medication education and management, if needed.
- Preschool - Educational needs are age appropriate with one class for three & four year olds and one for five & six year olds. The major emphasis is on behavior management.
- Home Visits - The home environment is evaluated so that suggestions for caregivers can be individualized.
- Community Consultation - Provided to the appropriate daycare, Head Start, or public school program to facilitate the child’s transition from IMPACT to the receiving preschool setting.
